“Just like the moon, we are always whole.”
There comes a season in the life of many women when the strategies that once brought success no longer seem to work.
She hasn’t lost her intelligence.
She hasn’t lost her ability to lead.
She hasn’t lost her passion or her purpose.
Yet something has changed.
Perhaps she wakes at three o’clock in the morning and cannot return to sleep. Her thoughts feel less linear than they once did. She walks into a room and forgets why she went there. Decisions that once came easily now require more reflection. She may feel emotionally tender, physically exhausted, or quietly wonder why the woman who once seemed able to do it all now needs more rest, more reflection, and more space.
If she is in her forties or fifties, she may be navigating perimenopause or menopause while continuing to lead a business, a ministry, a classroom, an organization, a community, or a family.
Too often, the message she receives is to push harder.
To become more productive.
To squeeze more from herself.
But what if this season is not asking for more pressure?
What if it is inviting a different way of leading?
A Different Conversation
For much of my life, I was taught to trust God, to stand on His promises, and to move forward in faith. Those truths remain the foundation of my life and ministry.
Over the years, however, another layer of understanding has emerged.
I have come to see that creation itself is filled with rhythms that invite us into wisdom rather than hurry. Day and night. The changing seasons. The tides. The planting and harvesting of crops. The cycles of rest and renewal woven throughout life.
Living in the Caribbean, these rhythms are never far away. We are surrounded by the sea, guided by seasons of planting and harvest, and blessed with brilliant moonlit nights that quietly remind us that nature has its own wisdom.
Among these rhythms, one has become especially meaningful to me: the lunar cycle.
Not because I believe the moon controls our lives, but because it has become a powerful teacher—a gentle reminder of something we so easily forget.
The Moon Never Stops Being Whole
When we look into the night sky, we speak of a full moon, a half moon, or a crescent moon.
Yet the moon itself has not changed.
Only our perspective has.
That simple truth has become one of the most liberating lessons of my life.
There was a season when I felt surrounded by lack.
Not because my life was empty, but because my attention had become fixed on what appeared to be missing.
Financially, I felt stretched.
Professionally, I found myself in a season of transition.
Although wonderful opportunities continued to unfold—international recognition, meaningful collaborations, invitations to teach and speak, and the privilege of continuing to serve—I found myself focusing almost entirely on what I believed I didn’t yet have.
I measured my life by what seemed absent rather than by what was already present.
Then one evening, as I reflected on the moon, something shifted within me.
I realized I had been looking at myself the way many people look at a quarter moon.
We say, “It’s only a quarter moon.”
But that isn’t true.
It is not one-quarter of a moon.
It is a whole moon revealing one-quarter of herself.
The moon had never become less.
Only my perspective had.
In that moment, I stopped asking,
“What’s missing?”
Instead, I began asking,
“What is this season revealing?”
That question changed everything.
I came to understand that just as the moon is always whole, so are we.
Our circumstances may change.
Our visibility may change.
Our energy may change.
But our wholeness does not.
We are always enough, lacking nothing.
Leadership Needs Rhythm
Leadership has often been measured by constant output, relentless availability, and the ability to keep going no matter the cost.
Many women have spent years proving themselves in systems that rewarded endurance over wellbeing.
Yet sustainable leadership requires something different.
It requires wisdom.
Self-awareness.
Reflection.
Healthy boundaries.
The courage to honour our rhythms without questioning our value.
This becomes especially important during perimenopause and menopause.
Many women experience changes in sleep, memory, energy, concentration, emotions, and recovery. These changes can feel unsettling, particularly for women accustomed to performing at exceptionally high levels.
But perhaps these years are not asking us to become less.
Perhaps they are inviting us to lead differently.
With greater discernment.
With deeper self-trust.
With more compassion.
With wisdom that cannot be rushed.
Moon Medicine™
This understanding became the foundation of what I now call Moon Medicine™.
Moon Medicine is not about predicting the future or surrendering our lives to the moon.
It is a reflective wellbeing practice inspired by one simple truth:
Just like the moon, we are always whole.
The changing phases of the moon invite us to pause, reflect, and ask ourselves meaningful questions.
What is emerging?
What needs rest?
What is asking to be released?
What wisdom is this season offering?
Rather than fighting every change, we learn to work with rhythm.
Rather than seeing transition as failure, we begin to recognize it as transformation.
A Caribbean Invitation
As Caribbean women, many of us have inherited an instinctive relationship with nature.
We know the tides.
We know the seasons.
We know the wisdom of planting, waiting, harvesting, and beginning again.
Perhaps it is time we remembered that we, too, are part of nature.
We are not machines.
We are living beings created with rhythms that deserve to be honoured.
When we begin to lead with those rhythms instead of against them, something remarkable happens.
We stop apologizing for being human.
We begin leading from wholeness.
An Invitation to Women in Leadership
If you are a woman in leadership navigating transition, perimenopause, menopause, burnout, or simply sensing that your old way of leading no longer fits who you are becoming, I want you to know this:
Nothing is wrong with you.
You are not falling behind.
You are not becoming less.
You are entering a season that may be inviting you to lead with greater wisdom, greater intention, and greater compassion—for yourself as much as for others.
That is the heart of my work through Energy Cycles for Women in Leadership™.
Together, we create space to reflect, regulate, and reconnect with your natural rhythms so you can lead with clarity, confidence, and calm authority.
Because leadership is not about proving your worth.
It is about remembering it.
Our Moon Medicine Declaration
Just like the moon, we are always whole.
We may be in a season of becoming more visible or a season of quiet renewal.
We may be expanding, releasing, resting, grieving, healing, or beginning again.
Yet none of these phases diminishes who we are.
Our energy may change.
Our circumstances may change.
Our responsibilities may change.
But our wholeness does not.
Every phase has purpose.
Every season carries wisdom.
We are always enough, lacking nothing.
From that wholeness, we lead.
From that wholeness, we serve.
From that wholeness, we create.
From that wholeness, we live.
Moon Medicine™ invites us to remember what has always been true.
Just like the moon, we are always whole. Our phases are not evidence of lack; they are invitations to remember our wholeness.
